FROM THE PASTOR:
Dr. R. W. Wood of Johns Hopkins University wrote: Be careful to appreciate the people who go to sleep when you are speaking. You may be helping more than you know. For several years, I’ve been going to London to lecture before the Royal Society. At the lect;ures, there was an old fellow who invariably fell asleep. The last time I spoke his place was vacant. A gentleman said, “He died recently and left the Society $150,000. He explained inhis will that he was troubled with insomnia and it was only in the meetings of the Royal Society that he could sleep, so he desired to show his appreiation by the legacy.”
…..
The ship was sinking fast. The captain called out, “Anyone here know how to pray?” One man stepped forward: “I do, captain!” “Good,” said the captain. “You pray. The rest of us will put on life jackets. We’re one short.”
In Sunday School, a teacher asked a small girl why she thought the clergymen in the Good Samaritan story passed by on the other side. The little girl replied, “Because the man lying by the roadside had already been robbed.”
A mother invited some people todinner. At the table she turned to her 6 year old daughter and said, “Would you like to say the blessing?” The little girl replied, “I wouldn’t know what to say.” “Just say what you hear Mommy say,” the mtoerhs aid. The little girl bowed her head and said,: “Dear Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?”

If you can get an address and phone number for any of these people please write it down and give it to the pastor.
WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY
Don’t wait to have your estate plan prepared. None of us knows when our life will end. Prepare your estate plan now, and remember that a gift to your church will help others even after your death.
ARE YOU HAVING DIFFICULTY HEARING DURING WORSHIP?
Our damaged hearing assistance system has been replaced. This system allows you to sit anywhere you want to in the sanctuary and hear anything that is being broadcast over the microphones through the use of special receivers and earphones. If you would like to try one, ask the pastor.

PASTOR’S PRAYER RETREAT
Pastor Billman will take some special time for prayer for our church and its people on Monday September 19th. He will pray for all the members and friends of our church by name. If you have any special prayer request that you would like to have him pray for confidentially at that time write it down and give it to him at worship one of the Sundays before that or email him fbillman@AldersgateRenewal.org.
JOELTON HOPE CENTER –Neighbors Helping Neighbors
The Hope Center is located 212 Gifford Place, between Curves and the Laundromat. There are now over 145 client families being helped by our center.
A barrel is in the entryway of the church to receive donations for the Joelton Hope Center. [You can also take them directly to the Hope Center.] There is always a need for cooking oil, sugar, corn meal and flour. These are items that the center has to buy most often. There is also a need for diapers size 4 and 5.
The Hope Center is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10-4 and 10-2 Saturday. The Hope Center Board set a goal of being open 6 days a week in 2011 so additional volunteers are needed any day Monday-Saturday. Call the Hope Center at 876-1778 if you can help.
The Joelton Hope Center was highlighted at the Tennessee Annual Conference session in June as a good example of risk taking mission and it was granted Advance Special Status. Our District Superintendent continues to hold up our Hope Center as an example for others of cooperation between smaller churches.
CHURCH BAR B QUE
The annual Greenville UMC Bar B Que will be held Saturday September 17th.
Forest Grove Music
In September we hope to start up regular choir rehearsals to prepare special music. If you are interested in being a part of the choir, please email Peggi at pegbillman@yahoo.com with what evening and time is best for you. We will mostly likely meet 2 times a month since everyone’s schedules are so full.
If you have a favorite old hymn or contemporary song you’d like us to sing (either as a choir or for the entire congregation), please let Peggi or Tim know. It would be helpful if you know the title, composer and even more helpful if you have a copy of the musicWe are blessed to have Jesse playing guitar and would like to have more numbers using the guitar as accompaniment. Each Sunday we try to have music that appeals to all kinds of tastes – from the old hymns to contemporary Christian. But, we need to remember that everything we offer is not for our likes or dislikes but for God. Each person brings what they have to him – your song is different than mine and He is pleased with both! So, come to worship ready to sing your new song of praise to Him! And, listen to someone else’s, giving thanks for their offering of praise!
SHORES OF GRACE
On September 11th, some of the Shores of Grace team will be speaking and singing in our worship service.
Shores of Grace Ministries is the ministry Nic and Rachael Billman began in Brazil. This month Luke and Alisan Billman and their family will be joining the team in Brazil. Most of you have heard from Pastor Frank or Peg about what they are doing in Brazil. For those who don’t know about their ministry, Shores of Grace focus is “setting those in prostitution free and walking them through restoration; taking the love of the Father to the poor and the broken and helping them see their true value, and equipping and serving the church in Brazil. The goal of our staff is to reveal Father God in all that we do. Whether we're leading worship in a church, walking the streets of Brazil or shopping at the local grocery store, we want to reveal the Father. This is the calling that God has placed on our lives and we believe it's a calling for the whole church, for all of the sons and daughters of the living God. To live a life of compassion and power where miracles and healing follow us everywhere we go, just as they did with Jesus.”
When they return to Brazil they hope to open Project Bethany, a rescue and worship house in Recife, in partnership with Meninas dos Olhos de Deus, for children in prostitution and abusive situations.
Come out Sunday, September 11th to hear stories of rescue, stories of hope and stories of why they are in ministry in Brazil. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry and I pray all will cause compassion to burn in your heart for the least of these they minister to in Brazil.
PICNIC AT THE RANDOLPH LAKE
Linda O’Neal has been gracious to invite us back to the lake for another picnic. September 11th in the afternoon we’ll gather at the Randolph Lake (4798 Lickton Pike, Whites Creek) for a time of fun, food and fellowship. Following the meal (4:00) we’ll have a time of “worship jam” with Nic and anyone else who wants to bring their acoustic instruments and jam for Jesus! So bring food to share, laughter to pass around and a song for the Lord September 11th starting at 2:00. See you there!
